Picos da Europa – Day 2 – Recognition
The first image I had whem I woke up will accompany me for the rest of my life.
Through the small window of the hostel dormitory, a huge rock face in sight that, almost insurmountable appearance, awaits us for what will be a week full of sensations …
I went down to breakfast. The rustic woods, in earthy tones, decorated the dining room offered us a warm atmosphere. A latte and two slices of toasted bread snuggled the stomach during the early morning hours.
Through the small window of the hostel dormitory, a huge rock face in sight that, almost insurmountable appearance, awaits us for what will be a week full of sensations …
Today will come the other “trekkers” (I could say the other friends but by this time I have not guessed what the mountain would offer me). Until they come, we killed a few hours in Potes.
That morning fair / local market, “embutidos” (sausage) and cheese flavored the narrow streets, a delicious combination of senses.
After the recognition of the “Villa” we went to Fuente Dé. It was here that, about 24 hours later and after the rise of the cable car, I would begin the trekking of the central massif of the Picos da Europa.
For now, lying in the cool surrounding grass, the imagination is all that’s left. And I gave her a use. I imagined landscapes to be discover, conversations and stories to share, the effort that would take us to the limit …
After a “huevos revueltos con bacon” and some “cañas” we returned to the hostel for a small luxury … an afternoon at the pool! It tastes so good …
The group was now completed and, step by step, the integration was made. At dinner we took questions, shared-expectations and fears as we were served a well composed “pasta” with meatballs. To accompany, a red wine that would be in everyone’s memory: the “Oblisco”. The wine couldn’t even be from a selected variety, a good year or a reserve wine harvest … but that night in that room and with that group, it tastes delicious.
We walked a little after dinner without linger us much in return … and before we lie down we would have a short “workshop” under the theme: “How to pack my backpack for a trek.”
The weight we had to carry on our back was one of our greatest fears. In my case were about 15 kgs on fears … After some filtering got a reduction of 2 or 3 kg … not bad!
With everything ready, we went to rest.
