Hidden in the tranquility of Vila Viçosa’s Municipal Forest lies Restaurante Os Cucos—a gastronomic retreat where nature and great food come together to create a unique experience.

Set in a lush park, surrounded by trees and the peacefulness of nature, the restaurant offers a serene and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal. After all, the delicious petiscos (small dishes) are meant to be savored without haste.

The menu reflects the traditions of Alentejan cuisine, featuring well-prepared dishes with authentic flavors. When we visited for lunch, we hadn’t made a reservation, and the dining room was full. We waited outside while the children played in the park, but it wasn’t long before we were shown to our table.

We decided to start with a delicious Octopus in Vinaigrette—a fresh and flavorful appetizer that whetted our appetite for the main course: Cação de Cebolada (dogfish in onion sauce). The fish was perfectly cooked, enveloped in a rich, aromatic onion sauce that enhanced the flavors of the sea.

Beyond the excellent food, it’s impossible not to mention the service. The friendliness and professionalism of the staff make all the difference, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that invites you to return.
