Vila Viçosa, known for its historical heritage and the majestic presence of the Paço Ducal, is also a gastronomic destination worth exploring. Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Restaurante O Paço Ducal and enjoy a traditional Alentejan meal on its pleasant outdoor terrace.

The restaurant is in a privileged location, offering a cozy atmosphere and an inviting terrace—perfect for savoring a meal in the open air. The service was friendly and efficient, reflecting the warm hospitality typical of the region.

We chose two emblematic dishes of Alentejan cuisine:

• Carne de Porco à Alentejana – A classic of regional gastronomy, this dish combines marinated and fried pork with clams, creating a fusion of sea and countryside flavors. The pork was tender and well-seasoned, while the clams added a salty, maritime touch to the meal. The homemade diced fries were placed on top of the meat to maintain their crispness.

• Plumas with Asparagus Migas – The meat was succulent and well-grilled, striking the perfect balance between fat and tenderness. The asparagus migas, well-seasoned and flavorful, complemented the dish perfectly, adding a rustic and delicious touch.

This meal was a true celebration of Alentejan gastronomy. The quality of the ingredients, the careful preparation, and the pleasant atmosphere made the visit a memorable experience. For those looking for an authentic meal in Vila Viçosa, this restaurant is undoubtedly a great choice.
