“O Lavrador” Restaurant – Junça (Almeida)
Those who leave Almeida and take the road N332 towards Vilar Formoso, soon find the extinct parish of Junça. Here next to the road “O Lavrador” restaurant resists to time and isolation.
When arriving, it’s difficult not to remember the movie “From the Dusk Till Dawn” (1996), by the director Robert Rodriguez, because we are in the middle of nowhere. But don’t be fooled by the outside appearance because unlike the events in the movie, here we passed a good time between friendly and welcoming people.
With a simple decoration, the “Lavrador” Restaurant is a humble space, doesn’t try to look like what it’s not, offering us a homemade menu without big masks and ornaments.
The restaurant was practically full (which is usually a good sign) and it was already a bit late for lunch. Despite this we were greeted sympathetically and got a table by the entrance.

We asked “Lavrador” Cod (see photo below) and House Steak. There was some delay in the preparation of the dishes but we understand perfectly because the house was full and we were the last to arrive. The cod was very tasty, accompanied with fried potatoes, with onions and tomato. The steak, though a bit dry, did not spoil the meal. In the end there was almost no leftovers in the dishes and the doses are generous, more than enough for an adult with a great appetite. The prices are fair with good value for money.
