At the top of a hill, overlooking the charming schist village of Piódão, INATEL Piódão offers an escape from the frantic pace of modern life. This secluded retreat is embraced by the majestic Serra do Açor mountains, enveloping the landscape in a cloak of serenity and tranquility. As you descend the road that meanders through the valley, it is impossible not to be amazed by the sight of traditional schist houses, their distinctive slate roofs harmoniously blending with the natural surroundings.

Since the first visit to Piódão, the desire to visit the hotel lingered in the air. And now, when we were looking for a place for a family weekend, the opportunity to visit it arose.

Visiting Piódão is like stepping back in time. The winding streets lined with carefully preserved schist houses create an atmosphere that seems to come straight out of a fairy tale. The small wooden windows and balconies adorned with colorful flowers exude a rustic charm that is simply enchanting. It is no wonder that Piódão is often referred to as the “Nativity Village” due to its uniquely beautiful architectural beauty.

In addition to visiting the village of Piódão, you can also explore the network of hiking trails that wind through the mountains, revealing breathtaking views at every turn. The “PR2 AGN – Percurso Pedestre Os Povos das Ribeiras de Piodam” and the “PR3 AGN – Percurso Pedestre Açor” both start and end in Piódão. Feel the earth beneath your feet as you walk the paths of schist, leading you to waterfalls, crystal-clear streams, and idyllic river beaches.

If you prefer relaxation, the hotel’s indoor pool is always a good option. During our visit, the jacuzzi and sauna were closed. On Saturday nights, traditional music fills the lounge, guaranteeing a lively and festive atmosphere.

You can savor the flavors of the region at the restaurant, indulging in traditional gastronomy that showcases the best of local produce.

The accommodation options in this 4-star hotel are carefully designed to harmoniously integrate with the surroundings. With rooms facing the mountains and others facing the village, the choice is yours. We opted for village views, and we made the right decision.

As the sun sets and night falls over the Serra do Açor, casting a warm golden glow over the peaks and valleys, magic happens when the streetlights come on, and the village turns into a living nativity scene.

Despite some room for modernization in this 4-star hotel, if you are seeking a peaceful retreat surrounded by mountains, INATEL Piódão is the gateway to a delightful journey where history, nature, and culture come together in perfect harmony.
