Dux Taberna Urbana (Coimbra)

“Dux Taberna Urbana” is located in downtown Coimbra, right in the heart of the student city. Well decorated and with a menu full of surprising tidbits invites us to have a good time with our family or friends in a selected and quiet ambience.

A menu full of surprising tidbits.

We started with butter and cottage cheese with pumpkin jam (see photo below) in an unexpected confection. This last one, the perfect combination with a foamy texture, barred in small slices of bread, whetted the appetite for what ensued.
Maria was delighted with a velvety and very tasty Vegetable Cream while we jumped into Grilled Squid with Potatoes and Butter and Parsley Sauce (see photo above). A simple snack, very fresh and traditional that we couln’t stop eating until there aren’t any more squid slices on the platter.

Undecided about what would come next to the table, we asked the advice of the friendly maid who received us. From a list of suggestions presented, we opted for “Tiras da Vazia” (beef strips) with Cheese Sauce (see photo below).

We love cheese of all kinds, flavours and shapes. So this seemed like the perfect option for us to continue the meal and we weren’t wrong.
For those who doesn’t like cheese, it may be a rather nauseating dish (and you should opt for other suggestions on the menu) but this wasn’t our case and we loved it.

To accompany the meat dish, came some very fine and crispy sweet potato chips.

It is undoubtedly a space where all the details matter and the small ones aren’t left to chance.

We felt like coming back to taste other suggestions from the menu. And there are some more delicious snacks to taste. Until next visit.
